Saint James

Saint James the Greater, son of Zebedee and Salome and brother of John the Evangelist, was one of Jesus' original twelve apostles. He was, in fact, one of the first apostles to follow Jesus, along with his brother John, Simon Peter, and Andrew. James, John, and Peter appear to be the apostles who were closest to Jesus. They were often taken aside to be special witnesses to the miracles and lessons of Jesus, and they were also with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. James was martyred in 44 CE by King Herod Agrippa I.
