St. Paul's Church, Centre Rawdon

1783-1896 | 1903-1941 | Early Customs | The Church

The architectural style of St. Paul's Church is of the classical variety that had been popular throughout the Georgian Period.

The front elevation shows the balanced symmetry so characteristic of the classical mode. The corner pilasters and returns are also typical elements of the classical mode. The windows are Gothic, and the squared label moulding over the front entrance adds a touch of the English Perpendicular Gothic style.

The interior too, is reminiscent of the earlier Churches. Classical pilaster detail decorates the chancel corners and plain square pillars with Doric-style capitals supports the back gallery.

There is an old fashion octagonal pulpit and straight backed, boxed pews. Christian doors are in evidence on either side of the chancel opening, one leading to the vestry, one leading to the small furnace room, and another Christian door serves as the main entrance.
