Synod 2008
Joy, Jane, and Rev. Duanne attended the opening of the 141st Session of Synod on Friday, May 23 2008 at the Cathedral of All Saints.
Following registration and Holy Eucharist, Synod was called to order by Bishop Sue Moxley. One of the first items of business was the election of the assistant Secretary of Synod. This position, uncontested, was awarded to Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser.
Bishop Sue then gave a report on the background of receiving nominations for the position of Suffragan Bishop of Nova Scotia/Prince Edward Island. We were instructed on the voting process and the election began. After the first balloting, candidate Randy Townsend's name was dropped from the list and subsequently Lynn Uzans' after the second round. As there was still not a significant percentage to declare a winner a third ballot was held after lunch.
While ballots were being counted, we participated in a hymn sing led by Rev. Canon David Fletcher music was taken from the newer Anglican hymnal (or as we in choir call "the new blue").
Results this time gave a winner, Archdeacon Ron Cutler, as the new Suffragan Bishop of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Approximate votes were Lay 170, Clergy 98.
Regrettably, Jane and I were unable to attend the rest of the sessions. We would like to thanks the Parish of Rawdon for nominating us as delegates and also Rev'ds Duanne and Carson for their assistance and support.
Yours in Christ,
Joy Morash and Jane Wile.
