Wardens' Report 2008

This past year was a momentous one for the Parish of Rawdon. The wardens' report covers the highlights.

New Rector

The top item of the past year was the appointment of our new rector, Reverend Marilyn Lamb.

The lengthy search and recruitment process was eased by the willing participation of many people. Last winter, Archdeacon Glenn Eason led us through the first steps. We established a parochial committee, composed of the following members of the parish: Shirley Campbell, Carol Carter, Ted Haldane, Eva Harvie, Ruth Himmelman, Sarah MacPhee, and Helen Powell. Many thanks to this group for performing this critical role.

We were fortunate to have Reverend Carson Baxter appointed as our Priest-in-Charge throughout the search and recruitment period. Parishioners responded immediately to his warmth and sincerity. We were fortunate as well to have Rev'd Bob Brush abd Rev'd Duanne Tanswell willing to conduct Sunday services when Carson was unavailable. On behalf of the parish, we sincerely thank Carson, Bob and Duanne.

The search and recruitment process ended most happily with Rev'd Marilyn Lamb joining our parish family at the beginning of the new church year. Welcome, Marilyn!

Parish List

Under the leadership of Rev'd Carson Baxter, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to all members of the parish. We had a response rate of about 30%. This year, we will follow up to try to increase the number of responses. Thank you to Elaine Winchcombe and Erin Winchcombe for compiling the survey packages.

Fundraisers

This past year we did not have as many fundraisers as in previous years; however, the few we had were successful, generating $6,286.00 income for the parish.

  • Take-Out Supper in May. A great team of volunteers prepared 492 suppers.
  • Christmas Sweet Trays. Following on last year's success with this fundraiser, we doubled our output this year. Many thanks to the bakers and tray-fillers who volunteered for this project.
  • Christmas Wreaths. Once again this year, thanks go to Shirley Campbell-Tanswell and Duanne Tanswell for organizing this fundraiser.

Fresh Start

In November, a number of parishioners attended a Fresh Start workshop in Truro. We were fortunate that Rev'd Marilyn Lamb was able to attend with us. Led by Jackie Pidduck, the session was designed for parishes in transition. Everyone present agreed it was a positive experience. A second workshop is set for Saturday, 7 March 2009. All members of the parish are welcome.
